Palmetto/Bradenton, FL

The the last two weeks have flown by here in the Palmetto/Bradenton area of Florida. We celebrated Kenny’s 70th birthday with red velvet cupcakes, Starbucks, and golf at Buffalo Creek. Dinner after golf was at the Anna Maria Oyster Bar in Ellenton with a free margarita complements of our Yelp app. I’ve included a photo below that shows their interesting paper towel holder from the colorful light fixtures.

We played golf a few days later at Manatee Golf Course and were paired up with another couple (Mary and John). They turned out to be a fun couple and they invited us to join them for dinner at Cody’s Roadhouse. We made plans to golf with them again (on John’s birthday) and went to dinner afterward that night at Hungry Howie’s (great pizza). Mary and John are from Buffalo, NY and have a winter home just a mile away from Winterset Resort where we are staying.

Kenny and I drove over to Anna Maria Island and found the beaches there (Anna Maria, Bradenton, Holmes, Coquina) are well populated. I bet we drove around the Anna Maria beach parking lot for more than a half hour before snagging a spot that someone else was going to pull into. Don’t be a hater… We hadn’t eaten and it was getting ugly! The long and short of it is that it’s best to go on down the beach strip to Coquina where it’s less crowded. The best part of lunch (when we finally got it @ 2 p.m.) was the Edy’s ice cream in a waffle cone!

We spent an afternoon on the Bradenton Riverwalk on Easter and enjoyed seeing all the families out and about. There were lots of skateboarders (they have a concrete skateboard area), kids riding bikes, and people with their pets all along the walk. Most interesting were the concrete formed seating areas and the railroad tracks leading out across the river that draw up to allow for river traffic. It was the day after Easter before we realized that the Easter Bunny is a regular visitor at our RV site.

We we do a lot of cooking in the RV, so we are always looking for new ideas. The Publix grocery store here has a person who makes recipes in the store and we happened to be there on the day she was making Thai Beef with Carrot-Basil Salad. We have made it twice and it is a new favorite.

Since being on the road, I have cut back a lot on shopping and personal services… Check out my toes!

More importantly, I brought my yarn with me when we started RVing and once we were on the road, I started to crochet an afghan for my granddaughter, Jordan. It’s my fastest work ever and I’m happy to say it is completely done and I cannot wait to give it to her (Kenny is pictured with it below). Speaking of Jordan, we are so excited for tomorrow when Cori, Andy, Logan and Jordan arrive in Sarasota for a week with us at Calini Beach Club. We seriously cannot give thanks enough to our friends the Stafford’s for this awesome gift. Mark and Laurie, you are the best!!

Once again, I hope our blog finds you all well and that you are enjoying reading about our travels. Stay tuned… After a couple of weeks in Sarasota we are heading to Sanibel Island and Key West…
