Finally we got outdoors and paid a visit to The Shaw Nature Reserve, which is nearby.
The Reserve has social distancing guidelines in place and we were comfortable with the check in process leading up to parking and taking the River Trail.
We went to the overlook and played around with the community of Red-headed Woodpeckers who were busily drilling for insects in the occasional snag. We could hear them as we meandered along and every now and again we would catch a good glimpse of one. It was almost as though they were teasing us!
And even though summer is all but over, there were enough small wildflowers to keep us occupied with our cameras. The teepee was a pleasant surprise but not sure why it was on the property.
The day’s weather was a pleasant 75 degrees and allowed for an enjoyable two-mile hike. At its conclusion, we promised ourselves to return soon.
