Thanks for visiting our travel blog. We have so much fun updating it with our adventures and hope you enjoy reading the updates and looking at the photography that journals the places that we have visited.  Our travels allow us to be both tourists and volunteers!

As tourists, we began our adventure by selling our home and buying a motor home.  Then, on Valentine’s Day 2015 we traveled from our home state of Missouri to Gulf Shores, Alabama.  From there, we went along the coast all the way to Key West taking in the sites as we went.  After Key West we went north along the East Coast all the way to Bar Harbor, Maine.  Along the way, we toured such places as Washington, DC, Gettysburg, Philadelphia, New York City, and Niagara Falls (US & Canada).

As volunteers, we spent seven months volunteering at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge in South Texas, working in their visitor center and operating their 66 passenger tram nature tour.  After that, we traveled to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon where we were campground hosts for the National Park Service for almost three months.  We also worked for the Florida State Parks as day-use maintenance workers.  After volunteering at the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge near Folkston, Georgia where we worked in separate jobs – I worked in the visitor center, gave tours of the Chesser Island Homestead, and helped with Environmental Education programs.  Ken worked in maintenance and did everything from rebuilding benches and signs to transporting materials (aluminum, glass & cardboard) to the recycling centers.

We took a long vacation and visited Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Zion National Park before returning to Camp Host again at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Next up was Death Valley National Park and then on to Sacramento NWR. We visited Seattle and went on an Inside Passage Cruise and Land Tour of Alaska before volunteering at Devils Tower National Monument. Our next assignment was at Theodore Roosevelt National Park as Camp Hosts for two months and then we went home to St. Louis for a long overdue visit with family and friends in October (2018). By that time it had been 16 months since we were last home.

In November we arrived back at the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge near Folkston, Georgia where it now feels like home. As I write this update I realize that we have already been here for two months and the next realization becomes that May will be here before we know it and with that comes our next visit home!

We hope you enjoy traveling with us as we continue to explore this beautiful country of ours!

  1. But what are you doing now? We could use campground hosts at Lewis Lake Campground in Yellowstone. I work the South Entrance.
